Electric air taxi in NYC “quietly” finishes its first flight test

In New York City, there’s a cool new way to travel: electric air taxis! These taxis are like small, electric helicopters. The company Joby Aviation just did a successful test flight in the city.

These electric air taxi are different because they don’t make any noise and don’t create pollution. They can take you from downtown Manhattan to JFK Airport super-fast in just seven minutes! That’s way quicker than other ways to get to the airport.

The mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, even said they would set up special charging stations for these electric taxis. It only takes about five minutes to charge them, which is the same time it takes for people to get off and on the taxi.

The taxis can carry four passengers, and they feel kind of like a regular car inside. They run on electricity, and on one charge, they can fly up to 100 miles. That’s enough to cover almost all the trips people take in the city.

The company Joby Aviation is waiting for the last two permissions from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) before they can start giving rides.

Another company, Archer Aviation, is also planning to have electric taxis in the city. They want to take people from downtown Manhattan to Newark Airport in just 10 minutes!

These electric taxis are not just for fun; they can help make transportation faster and cleaner. And they might be flying over the city very soon!
